About us

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University. Established in the year of 1997, SMIT is part of renowned Manipal group that has made its mark in the field of education and health services in India and abroad.

The Department of Civil Engineering was set up in the year 2009 at the Majhitar Campus. The Department was developed with a prime focus on application oriented training and skill development which would help the student to be better acquainted with the industry.

About the conference

Down To Earth 2019 will focus on Water Security and Sustainability. The conference aims to provide a platform for academicians, researchers, students, engineers and industry professionals to present their recent research work. However, original research on other aspects of Hydrology and water resources engineering are also welcome.

Our Goals

The conference aims and encourages participation of both young and experienced researchers, academicians to collect new ideas and to establish new contacts for future collaborations. Down the line in future, the conference series Down To Earth plans to highlight other burning issues related to Earth, Environment and Civil Engineering.

All shortlisted papers will be published in Conference proceedings indexed by Scopus. Selected papers will be forwarded for publication in SCI journals

Abstract Submission Guidelines

The abstract should be formatted using 10 point Times or Times New Roman. The abstract should have concise information about the article and indicate the main results obtained and conclusion drawn. The abstract is not part of the text and should be complete by itself. No table numbers, figure numbers, references and mathematical expressions should be included. It should be suitable for direct inclusion in abstracting services and should not formally exceed 200 words in a single paragraph. Click here for Abstract Template

Completed abstracts should be sent to downtoearth@smit.smu.edu.in on or before 15th June 2019.

On selection of abstract the author(s) will be notified and a Conference ID will be provided. Kindly quote the Conference ID for all future communications.

FULL PAPER Submission Guidelines
  • All papers will be reviewed by a team of experienced reviewers. Review criteria will be based on novelty, quality of work, technical ingenuity, results and application prospects.
  • You are requested to submit scholarly papers based on original research work having six (06) A4 pages including figures, tables and reference.
  • Ensure that the paper you submit has not previously been published elsewhere or currently not under consideration by another scientific conference/ journal.

Outstanding papers presented in Down To Earth 2019 will be awarded based on reviews by Session Chairs and conference committee members during the valedictory session.

Guidelines for Author Registration

  • Each accepted paper must be registered by any one of the author(s).
  • You are requested to attend the conference and present your paper under the oral presentation session. If the registered/corresponding author is unable to attend the conference, the same can be attended and presented on his/her behalf by the co-authors. The paper will not be submitted to IOP Conference series publication without completing registration and presentation.
  • Oral Presentation of paper has to be done only by participants who have registered as the author for the paper.
  • Part-time Research scholars will be considered under the category of Academician or Industry delegate.

*Registration fee for co-author/ listener/ accompanying person is Rs. 4000 (with kit) and Rs. 3000 (without kit).

DR. SHARAD KUMAR JAIN

Director of National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee &
Director-General of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) (Additional Charge)

Dr. Sharad Kumar Jain received his B.E (Civil) degree from University of Roorkee, (1980) and M. Tech (Hydraulics & Water Resources) Degree from IIT, Kanpur (1982). He received his PhD from IIT, Roorkee (1990).

Currently, he is the Director of National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee and Director-General of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) (Additional Charge). He has authored 4 books and contributed to over 230 technical papers in various journals of national and international reputation. He has also successfully completed 10 externally funded research projects.

Dr Sharad Kumar Jain has worked as a scientist at various branches under National Institute of Hydrology (NIH). He is an active member of various scientific and professional committees. He has vast experience in research and teaching for more than 35 years. His research interests include Surface Water Hydrology; Water Resources Planning and Management; and Application of Advanced Tools such as Artificial Neural Networks; Remote Sensing; GIS; and Decision Support Systems.

Dr. Prashant Kumar Chamapti Ray received his M.Sc. (Applied Geology) degree from IIT Bombay and M.S (Appl. Geomorphology and Eng. Geol. Survey) from ITC, Netherlands. He completed his PhD (Remote Sensing and Geology) from IIT Bombay and Post Doc. (SAR Interferometry) from ITC, The Netherlands and SARMAP, Switzerland

Currently, Group Head, Geosciences and Disaster Management Studies Group, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, ISRO. He has contributed to over 55 technical papers in various journals of national and international reputation. He is a recipient of P. R. Pisharoty Memorial Award (earlier known as Indian National Remote Sensing Award) by Indian Society of Remote Sensing for significant research contribution in the area of remote sensing data integration and modelling for geological hazard analysis.

He is an active member of various scientific and professional committees. His research interests include Spatial modeling for Landslide Hazard Assessment; Geodynamics, Neotectonics and Seismic Hazard Assessment Neotectonics; Seismic Hazard Assessment.
